By the end of the term, Class 2 will have a grasp of basic First Aid, thanks to Amanda Quigley - Carroll, a parent governor. She is leading our sessions, using materials from the St. John's Ambulance Organisation. The children have already learnt how to put a casualty into the recovery position.
Change 4 Life
Class 2 are lucky enough to have a lunchtime club, afternoon lessons and after school club every Friday, provided by the Change 4 Life team. We are learning about healthy lifestyles, including diet and exercise.
Boomwhacker Experience
Unbeatable Energy Ltd. led our Boomwhacker day. We experienced drumming and the use of boomwhackers (percussion sticks) in a series of creative, colourful workshops. The children loved being free to make a loud noise in lesson time! Many thanks to our Support Group for funding this fun day.
'Alice in Wonderland'
'Unconditioned Arts' Theatre Group performed their version of this Lewis Carroll classic for all of us. Everyone enjoyed it and learnt lots about how to present characters. It was a great story as well, of course.
Easter Egg Hunt
Sudbury Supporters' Group arranged and ran an Easter egg hunt on Good Friday this year. Despite the rain, everyone enjoyed Mrs. Carey's Treasure Hunt and the Easter crafts. Fantastic biscuits and cakes were on sale, with refreshments. We made a profit of £257!
There was also a surprise visit by a special guest: have a look in our 'Events' section!
Music Partnership
Sudbury Primary took part in the Celebration Concert at Derby Assembly Rooms on Sunday, 21st March. A junior choir ('Young Voices' made up of children from nine Derbyshire primary schools sang four songs, arranged expertly by Rachel Wilkes. The singing sounded wonderful: even the actions were co - ordinated beautifully! The concert was packed with a variety of performances, including an Infant Choir; a Wind Band and a Steel Drumming Ensemble. We are all very proud of the ten children who represented us so well.
Dance / Drama Club
The after school Dance / Drama club run by Clubs4children began on Tuesday, 12th January and runs for 10 weeks, finishing on 30th March. We have 16 children signed up for the club: that's 43%!
Football Club
The Football Club started in March, to run on Wednesdays after school. Eleven Key Stage 2 children are attending this club. They will have the opportunity to take part in a six a side competition with other schools, in May.
Golf Club
We are lucky to have a Golf Club running on Thursdays after school. Fifteen children are taking part, learning how to putt, chip and enjoy a new activity. There will be an opportunity for some children to take part in a tournament at Ashbourne Golf Club.
'Grease' is the Word
Years 5 and 6 were invited to watch the production of 'Grease' at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Ashbourne, on 24th March. It was fantastic, with outstanding acting, singing and music making. It was great for our children to get a taste of the opportunities that will be open to them when they move on to secondary school.
Bags2School
Our last appeal for jumble raised £368 - a brilliant effort from everyone. There will be another collection on 23rd April.
